This fall the Dedham School of Music and First Church have collaboratively initiated a new concert series, First Friday Jazz/Classical Concerts. Its second concert of the 2024-2025 season features Megan Dillion and Tommy Chiu and takes place at First Church and Parish Dedham 670 High Street, Dedham on Friday, November 1, 2024 at 7:30 pm in the Meetinghouse. There will be refreshments for purchase. Tickets are $20 and are available online. On the night of the concert, student discount tickets will also be sold at the door. Doors open at 7:00 pm.
Megan Dillon is a Boston-based saxophonist, woodwind doubler, and educator. Her musicality has led her to regularly perform with wind ensembles and orchestras throughout the Northeast. Megan is a Lecturer of Saxophone at Keene State College and serves on the woodwind faculty at both Brimmer & May School and the Dedham School of Music. In addition to managing her private studio, she was the woodwind teaching fellow for the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra’s Crescendo program. She holds the soprano chair in the Huntington Quartet and works as a freelance pit musician. Megan’s fellow saxophonist Lucas Barry has performed as a soloist in various capacities in Massachusetts and the state of Washington. His goal is to convince audiences of the artistic capabilities of classical saxophone through programming diverse pieces demonstrating its expressive range. In addition, Megan will be accompanied by pianist William Hume, an active collaborator with a keen interest in instrumental, vocal and ensemble repertoire,
A native of Hong Kong based in Boston, Dr. Tommy Chiu, also a faculty member at the Dedham School of Music, has made appearances in major cities across Asia and North America both as a performer and an educator. As a soloist, he shared the stage with the University of British Columbia Chamber Orchestra, the Boston University Wind Ensemble, the Boston University Trombone Choir and the Brookline Community Band, and was named finalist in various concerto competitions, including that of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestral Institute and the PRISMA Festival & Academy. As an orchestral musician, he was appointed Principal Trombone of the Boston Civic Symphony in their 100th season, and regularly appears with the Plymouth Philharmonic Orchestra and the Chorus of Westerly Festival Orchestra, among others. He will be accompanied by pianist Paulina Mei En who is hugely passionate in collaborative music-making.
First Church and Parish Dedham Unitarian Universalist was gathered in 1638 and is located in Dedham Center at 670 High Street. Its lively music program includes choir at Sunday services, the Parish Players theater troupe, Friday Folk Coffeehouse, as well as our First Friday Jazz/Classical Concerts in conjunction with Dedham School of Music, founded in 2008, so as to provide an environment for people of all ages, abilities, and means to learn, play, and enjoy music.
